Counting by 6 Song

Here is a song we used in Maths this week (and quite happily for indoor fitness too actually!). It will help with our skip counting and make learning our times tables later in our school life easier. The song goes past 60 but if we can remember 6, 12, 18, 24, 30... 36, 42, 48, 54, 60 I would be over the moon- Enjoy!

Telling the Time Links

We are learning to tell time. Here is a game which gets you to match a clock to times. It might be a bit tricky for some, but have a go!

Here is actually a good school website with all the links there and more. Easier levels seem to be available :)

Art Attack Week

Term 3 is starting off with an Art Attack across the school! Exciting times are ahead! In Room 9, we have been looking at Georges Seurat who created Pointillism -basically his work is a collection of individual dots which, when joined together, create a picture. The painting below took over 2 years to complete and has over 3 million dots of paint.

Also, just so you know, we are using washable paint in class and we do have half a class set of art shirts around that I can share. However, if you have one to spare at home, it will help keep everybody's uniforms as clean as possible. Thanks!

Keeping Ourselves Safe, May 15th

Today we read the story of Jane and Uncle Steve (attached below), we discussed the story then looked at a checklist of questions which the children could use to help them identify whether a situation is safe.
At home: The children have a copy of this checklist to share and discuss with you.
Jane and Uncle Steve
Jane had an uncle, Steve, whom she liked a lot. He would come to visit and take her out for ice-cream.
One day Uncle Steve came to visit. He asked Jane if she wanted to go to the dairy to get an ice-cream, and her mother said it was okay. So Jane and Uncle Steve got into the car and went to the shop.
As they were driving to the shop Uncle Steve put his hand on Jane’s thigh and then started to put his hand between her legs. He told her he would buy her the biggest ice-cream if she didn’t tell anyone. It would be a secret just between the two of them.

Keeping Ourselves Safe, May 12th

On Friday, we talked about bullying and its effects.
At home: Talk about what your child could do if they were bullied. Ask your child to tell you about the video.

Today we talked about the difference between ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch’.

At home: Ask your child to give you examples of each type of touch. Talk to your child about what they could do if they were touched in ways that hurt or confused them.

Cross Country

Good Afternoon. Cross Country is tomorrow so just a reminder to bring an extra big morning tea, your house coloured tops and another set of uniform sports gear (and socks) in a plastic bag in case we get a bit too muddy. Fingers crossed for some nice weather and assume it is a go unless a text alert informs you that it is postponed.

By the way, MacKillop House mufti on Friday! Well done :)

Keeping Ourselves Safe, May 6th

Today we talked about recognising possible dangers and using strategies to stay safe.
At home: Talk to your child about what they could do if they felt unsafe.

Keeping Ourselves Safe Unit

Over the next two weeks, we will be teaching the Keeping Ourselves Safe lessons. While this topic is taught, daily updates keep you informed about what was talked about and how you may wish to follow the lesson up at home.
For those who like more of a heads up, here is a basic overview of the Year 3/4 programme. We will talk about how we all have the right to be safe –to have our bodies feel safe and to feel safe inside; that is emotionally safe. Your child will see a video about bullying. We will talk about three different types of touch –touch I like, touch that hurts and touch which is confusing.

FYI - The topic was not introduced today.

We have been looking at the Tectonic Plates that the outer layer of the earth sits on. Today we used this online puzzle in class to get the idea of where the plates are. Try it at home, by clicking on this link: http://mysciencekit.com/platespuzzle.htm
